Dear Katherine,

You are now two years old! We don’t have a big party planned this year, but you did get to blow candles three times! First with our Welly family, then at daycare and here at home. I’m hope you didn’t mind, but you did get to eat a lot of cake, and opened some gifts. You have new toys and I’m sure you will enjoy them.

Three celebrations for your 2nd birthday!

These past few months have been quite hectic for us, right? Patty joined our family and I know you have been adjusting with another person around the house. It is so nice to see you and your sister together. I know that, in the beginning, you were quite unsure how to deal with the baby. In fact, you have been hesitant to approach her. Slowly, I’ve seen you getting used to being with her and even attempting to play with Patty.

Getting to know Patty

Recently, your Dad and I made the difficult decision of putting you in daycare full-time. That’s five days a week, just like being in big school. Previously, we had one day where you stayed at home with Patty and I. But both you and Patty are growing, both with different needs, Mummy can hardly keep up. I feel that it would be better for you to join your friends and teachers in daycare–there, you’ll get to play and learn with your friends. So much better than just staying home with me and watching TV all day. I can see you enjoy your time there, and while I do miss you, I know you are doing well.

You are slowly starting to build your vocabulary. You can already say a few words, and sing familiar nursery rhymes. I love hearing your voice. You also love climbing (this is why we covered the stairs to our attic with a curtain), putting blocks together and playing with water. On our trip out to Castlepoint, you actually got really wet and wanted to go into the water! Too bad, the water was cold. Hopefully, next time we can all have a swim when it’s warmer.

I can see glimpses of your personality shining through already. You are cheerful, it’s quite easy to make you smile and laugh. You are also fiercely independent. You see a toy and try to figure out how it works, and by the next time, you’ll know what to do with it. You definitely have lots of energy, Daddy and I can hardly keep up! You are curious, you love music and love colors too!

This coming year will be another adventure, with Patty in our family. I know you’re going to be a great big sister. I am so excited and looking forward to the many things you will accomplish this year. My everyday prayer is that you continue to thrive, be a good girl and always be healthy.

Love,

Mummy
