We just had a simple birthday celebration for my 41st birthday yesterday. The night before, John and the girls presented me with cake.

The girls took turns blowing the candle

Truth to tell, I did not plan to do anything special, I even had the urge to clean the entire house and iron clothes, because #mumlife. But I decided to just laze around, do some online shopping, write stuff on my journal, and blog (hence this entry). I am still in my pajamas, and it is now 2pm in the afternoon.

It’s strange times these days, isn’t it? How many of you are at home, in quarantine or just plain afraid to go outside and mingle with other folks? Any time now, I suspect my company will start letting people work from home (update: starting Thursday), especially as the virus has reached us here in Wellington. How are you all coping?

As I grow older, I realize that the wishes I have for my birthday are much more simpler, and not even for myself. For my birthday, I am just thankful for another year, continued health for myself and my loved ones, and for a solution to this virus that’s going around.

It’s been a while since I put something up on this space and let you know what I’ve been up to recently.

Life Updates

Watching

I am still into watching Korean dramas, but currently taking a break from love stories after the masterpiece that is Crash Landing on You. How timely that I started watching Kingdom last night, about a mysterious plague overtaking an ancient Korean kingdom. In between, I’m also trying to finish up “Big Bang Theory” which I stopped watching after season 4 years ago, and also Love is Blind, a reality-dating show. I am invested in Cameron and Lauren’s love story, guys!

Reading

“Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens. Yes, I’m back to reading books. Last year was dismal, as I completed absolutely zero. From a person who used to plow through two dozen books a year, this is pretty sad, right? So this year, I decided to read again, in whatever form it is –hard copies, digital, audio books (have any of you tried audio, was it any good?).

March Where the Crawdads Sing book

I’ll write a post about some books I’ve finished recently, I hope you come back for that.

Using

Bio Oil – A few weeks ago, I stumbled and fell in the playground while chasing Katie, which resulted in horrible bruises on both knees. At 40, seriously, it looks like I’ll be having a couple of scars for a few months. So I am applying this oil everyday, because I had read that it made stretch marks and scars lighter. I’m on two weeks now and it does look a little bit lighter.

Jo Malone Grapefruit Cologne – A gift from Mom. It smells like a man’s cologne when you first put it on, but after an hour or so, it smells so clean and crisp. Plus, it lasts all day long.

March- Products
Loving these products

Face Masks – Stuff I got from Korea last December. I put one on when I have a lot of time in the bathroom.

Moisturizers – At this age, I am quite obsessed with moisturizing. This past summer, I’ve been using water-based Neutrogena because it doesn’t make my skin so oily. But I’ve recently switched to Clinique and Estee Lauder for the night.

Body Butter – I’ve gone back to using Shea Body Butter from The Body Shop. The smell is just heavenly and relaxing.

I should probably make a round up of skin care products, and hopefully get some suggestions from you. There’s so many products out there, and I’m always on the lookout for new ones to try.

Doing

Marathon Training – I’ve decided this is the year I will run a full marathon. Honestly, I have not been running and working out as often, I’ve really been feeling so lazy since the start of the year. So, this serves as a big motivation for me-I have about 18 weeks to train, and hopefully I get ready in time to finish. No time target for now, the goal is just to finish 42 kms.

More Writing – This year, I decided to put more time into writing, and not just on this blog. So I’ve been reaching out to other places on the web where I can contribute, and so far, it’s been good. I’ll let you know more about these projects soon.

So that’s what I’ve been up to recently. I hope to put some more posts these next couple of days. I think I’ll have more time to write if this virus scare continues to let us stay at home. What about you, what are you interested in these days?
